For some, jaw discomfort can be a problem. For me, it was a debilitating condition that honestly left me questioning how I could go on living! I didn’t laugh anymore, was always on edge around family and friends and co-workers. Physicians prescribed endless anti-inflammatory meds, I purchased expensive mouth guards, even my long-time dentist had little hope to offer…NOTHING worked! As a last resort, I was sent to a sleep disorder clinic. The study indicated possible TMJ issues and referred me to Dr. Giordano’s office. After a month of treatment, my discomfort was virtually gone, and with it the revelation of how low I’d gotten from my years of pain. It’s a thrill to say that I can carry on normal conversations now without discomfort, sleep better, breathe easier and I appreciate smiling again….such simple pleasures lost to an agony that dominated my life. Dr. Giordano’s method of treating TMJ problems is in a class by itself. I discovered this after 40 years of pain, treatment attempts by 4 previous dentists, and more consultations than I can count. I was diagnosed with sleep apnea and given a CPAP machine. After two months of trying to use the CPAP device, I developed sinus and ear infections. My Dr. informed me that I could try an oral appliance that moves the jaw forward to keep the airway open. Dr. Giordano and his staff were extremely knowledgeable and friendly! They answered all of my questions and concerns. They contacted my dentist, as well as, my health insurance provider. Dr. Giordano examined me, took impressions of my teeth and fit me for the appliance. I’ve used it every night since I received it. I was having severe nerve pain originating from my neck to the right front and side of my head near my ear. My Physical Therapist suggested that the side pain near my ear was possibly from the TMJ and I should have it examined by my dentist. My dentist referred me to Dr. Giordano. After Dr. Giordano’s exams and x-rays, I began using the special appliance everyday and then eventually only to bed at night. I followed his recommendations and eventually the pain began to diminish and then it finally stopped!! I am very pleased to to no longer experience the horrific pain around the side of my head and would definitely recommend Dr. Giordano for those who experience this type of pain!! I have been suffering from TMJ pain since I was a teen, but it progressively got worse into my 20’s and 30’s. I finally was referred to Dr. Giordano for help. I wasn’t sure how it would work but going through the steps and doing what he told me made a HUGE difference. Dr. Louis Giordano is a rock star! Here’s my story:
I turned 60 this year but was diagnosed with TMJ in my 20’s. I had found a local dentist in Binghamton who gave me three options at that time: He could break my jaw and rewire it; he could put me into braces; or he could fit me for an appliance with the understanding that I would have to wear it for the rest of my life. Being young and newly married, I opted to wear an appliance. I was extremely pleased with the outcome because the appliance corrected my problem and for a few decades, life was good . . . that was, until my dentist retired and the last appliance he had made finally wore out. My new dentist (who replaced him) attempted to create a new appliance for me, but the appliance was never a good fit. I was told “you’re an anomoly, and I’m not sure I can help you” (anomoly meaning a departure from the normal — that’s definitely something I didn’t want to hear!) After three attempts at creating more appliances that didn’t fit, I finally gave up on that dentist and decided I had to try a new path. After calling several orthodontists in the Binghamton area to inquire about a TMJ specialist, I was consistently referred to a doctor in Albany. Yes, Albany! That was extremely discouraging because I didn’t want to drive to Albany for every appointment. After conveying my frustration with a coworker whose son is a hockey player and patient of Dr. Giordano’s, she asked why I hadn’t considered Dr. Giordano who is local and specializes in TMJ. I told her I had never heard of him. She highly recommended him to me and encouraged me to visit their website. After reading everything I could about the practice, I called to set up my first appointment. Upon arriving, I sat in the waiting room and found a scrap book full of testimonials from patients that Dr. Giordano has helped… more “anomolys” just like me. I felt that I had come home.
I am pleased to say that I am now wearing a new appliance (aka dental splint) created by Dr. Giordano. The man is a ROCK STAR! The new appliance fits my teeth perfectly. I’ve had no headaches or jaw problems. I honestly expected to have SOME discomfort with the new appliance, but it continues to fit perfectly. The neat thing is that I’m also able to eat with it in my mouth. That was something that was never even considered at my previous dentist office. Being able to eat wtih my new appliance makes eating food a pleasure again!
As you can tell by now, I can’t praise Dr. Louis Giordano enough. I am absolutely pleased beyond measure and blessed to have found him. I HIGHLY recommend Dr. Giordano for any of your TMJ or dental needs. One final note: I would be remiss if I didn’t mention his staff. Everyone there is warm and friendly, and they make you feel like family. 🙂
